The Research Group on Economic Growth and Environment (AICEMA in Spanish) is focused on the relations and operating mechanisms between the economic system and nature. Their members seek to develop alternative economic and environmental policies in order to stop and prevent environmental pollution, natural resource exhaustion and set the basis for sustainable growth.

The core of AICEMA is located in the Economic Department, Social Sciences Division, UAM-A. However, associated researchers from various institutions collaborate in the group's projects (for instance, the Economic Production Department of UAM-X).

The AI-CEMA was formally constituted on April 29th, 2002, after a rigorous evaluation process of the group's performance throughout several previous years.
