  The Colonia Condesa is the zone where the Art Deco reached its maxim expression in Latin America with original buildings and parks, and is nowadays, one of the most trendy neighborhoods of Mexico City.  
 

The origins of Colonia Condesa go back to the 1920's and the 1930's, when started the construction of numerous buildings in this zone, where years before the Hipodromo de la Condesa de Miravalle (The Countess of Miravalle Hipodrome) was located, because of that this zone is also known as "Hipodromo Condesa". Since its first days this district, has had very good infrastructures such as its big parks and tree lined avenues. Along with to the Colonia Roma a neighboring zone, this zone became into one of the favorites neighborhoods of the middle and upper class and also of people of all the world that give to this district a urban and avant garde character..Visit the image gallery of Colonia Condesa!

  

 
 
The Colonia Condesa has beautiful parks and green areas. In the center of the neighborhood is located the Mexico Park, that has several fountains and a lake with ducks. Also in this park is located an art deco theater outdoors that is a perfect exponent of the impact that this artistic movement had in this zone.
 
 
Another remarcable aspect of Colonia Condesa, are its beautiful traffic circles all of them with Art Deco style fountains like the one of Plaza Iztaccihuatl public square or Popocatepetl traffic circle.

During the last years, this zone has had a big renaissance, that became it in one of the most booming districts of Mexico City, with its numerous restaurants, bistrots where office people, artists, intellectuals, students and designers chat, give to this zone a bohemian air and an intelectual character, to being the equivalent of the Soho of New York City or the Barrio Latino of Paris. Also this zone is known because of its trendy boutiques and its avant gard architecture with buildings that go of the Art Deco to the Minimalism.
 
 

When you visit Colonia Condesa you can't forget to:

  • Walk in the Mexico Park and aprecciate each one of its fantastic fountains.
  • Walk trough the zone and see the Art Decó style buildings.
  • Having lunch or dinner in one of the open air terraces of its restaurants.
